Martin Kavanagh, 18, Oswaldtwistle

Martin has always had an interest in computers and when he left school decided to embark on a college course to improve his chances of getting a good job in the IT industry.

However, after six months, Martin realised college wasn’t for him and found out about e2e from his Connexions adviser. Since joining learning provider, North Lancs Training Group, Martin’s career prospects have gone from strength to strength.

Martin completed the e2e programme in January 2005. He has now secured a full-time job with Accrington based Ardellis Ltd and is working towards an Apprenticeship in IT Programming.

“When I left college, I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do next. e2e pointed me in the right direction and gave me real work experience which confirmed my decision to progress a career in IT. Being on the programme has been brilliant – it’s given me lots of confidence which is helping me deal with customers at work and has really made me determined to succeed in my job.”

Supporting employer quote:

Ken Olesinski, Managing Director of Ardellis Ltd said, “When North Lancs Training Group contacted us we didn’t actually have a full-time IT position available. However, after consideration and interviewing Martin we saw this as a good opportunity for both us as a company and Martin as a trainee. Martin was keen on computing and because we work with the latest Microsoft products we knew that Martin’s apparent interest and enthusiasm for computing would help him in this hi-tech industry.

“The skills Martin brought with him from North Lancs Training Group have developed and progressed because of the opportunity the e2e programme has offered him. He is now an extremely valued member of the team and has shown that given the right opportunity it is possible to excel and make up for any previous shortcomings.”
