Percy Moyo, 21, Blackburn

Percy moved to England from Zimbabwe in 2002 and was determined to pursue an office-based career. Having completed an ECDL course at college, Percy spoke to Training 2000 to find out about his options.

Training 2000 placed him on e2e to build his confidence, improve his basic skills and gain work experience. Percy joined The Capita Group Ltd in the HR and Payroll Department and impressed his employer so much that he was offered a full-time job.

He is now looking forward to starting an NVQ Level 2 in Business Administration and has scooped a handful of awards, including Employee of the Month for his hard work and outstanding achievement.

“Moving to a new country was daunting at first, but the e2e programme made me more confident and helped me make new friends. It has made me a better person, and as a result I now have a brilliant job with great prospects. e2e gave me the kick-start I needed in my career, and I now want to complete my apprenticeship and fulfil my ambition of becoming a team leader or manager one day.”

Supporting employer quote:

Susan Tootell, Capita’s Employment Administration Manager said, “Percy joined us in May 2004, initially under the e2e programme working 4 days per week, and then on a fixed-term contract until December 2004. It was during this period that Percy became an invaluable member of staff undertaking mainly routine, but very necessary tasks which are an integral part of our service.

“Percy’s commitment to his role led us to offer him a full-time position in January 2005 and this has given him the opportunity to expand his knowledge by working across two teams. Percy has achieved his career success to date without the support of a close family network, which is a testament to his resolve to succeed.

“e2e is an excellent programme which is helping young people, many of whom have left school with few qualifications to experience the world of work and hopefully impress potential employers that it is not only academic qualifications that count, but the ability to respond to challenges in the workplace.”
