A. Padgett Authorised Plumbers

Apprentice: Alan Forrester

Learning provider: Burnley College

How does Apprenticeship training fit in with the needs of your business?

Our qualified plumbers are constantly out on site, and our Apprentices have a fantastic opportunity to experience a wide range of installations as much of their learning is done on the job. Our Apprentices attend college one day per week, and this gives them theory based knowledge and understanding of the regulations surrounding the industry which complement their workplace training

What skills/attributes have your Apprentices brought to the business?

Without doubt the enthusiasm and fresh ideas our Apprentices bring keep our business forward looking and progressive. Alan, our current Apprentice, came to us though the work we do with local schools, so we had the chance to get to know him before we recruited him onto the Apprenticeship and we were in no doubt that he would fit in with the team.

What are your future plans for recruiting Apprentices?

Our current Apprentice, Alan, will complete his NVQ this summer. In line with our commitment to the Apprenticeship programme, we are keen to recruit someone to fill the gap Alan will leave as he qualifies. We have already identified a young person through the local school’s work experience scheme, so are hoping he will join us on completion of his GCSEs.
