David Codd, 19, Blackpool

David was bullied at school and left before he took his GCSEs. The future was looking bleak for David, and without any qualifications he didn’t know where to turn. He found out about e2e through Connexions and joined Beneast Training on the programme. Beneast were impressed with the progress David made in improving his literacy and numeracy skills and signposted him to Henry Boot Building Services to pursue a career in the construction industry. Initially it was felt that an Apprenticeship would stretch David too far, but David rose to the challenge and surpassed everyone’s expectations. David is now thriving in his Apprenticeship. “I didn’t enjoy school and when I left I had no idea what I wanted to do. Having no qualifications meant my options were limited but I knew I wanted a job that would allow me to use my practical skills. Being on e2e has helped build my self-esteem. I am now working towards NVQ Level 2 and I am confident that this will help me succeed in a career in construction.”

Supporting employer quote: David Weingard, Training Instructor at Henry Boot Building Services said, “David initially had some basic skills barriers and lacked confidence in himself. The e2e programme has had a dramatic impact on him and has really turned his world around. He is one of our hardest workers and has demonstrated excellent motivation. “From an employer’s perspective, the e2e programme is an excellent opportunity for us to get first hand experience of whether a young person fits in with our business, and in David’s case, it has provided us with an outstanding employee who is building a promising career in construction.”
